RoomSketcher’s Favourite new TV Show – The Great Interior Design Challenge

RoomSketcher’s Favourite new TV Show - The Great Interior Design Challenge

In January BBC launched an excellent new interior design programme, The Great Interior Design Challenge, UKs first big redesign programme since Changing Rooms.

The show takes 24 amateur interior designers and pits them against each other. With a £1000 budget and 3 days to transform a room, the contestants rush to complete their projects. The highlight of the show is watching the reactions of the adventurous homeowners, who have allowed one of their rooms to be transformed by complete stranger!

One of the best things about the show is its compatibility with RoomSketcher. You can open RoomSketcher and draw the layout of one of the rooms on the TV show. Whilst watching the programme, you can create your own design for the room and see how it compares with the designs of the contestants. Or if you’re using the show for inspiration, draw up a model of one of your own rooms and see how the themes shown by the designers could be applied to your home.

With its 12 episodes the show is a great source of inspiration, tips and tricks. The differing styles and solutions on display will offer you a variety of ways in which a lick of paint and a bit of fabric can transform a living space. The limited budget for each contestant means that you get to see dozens of innovative and affordable design shortcuts put into action! You will find yourself inspired after watching just a few episodes, maybe you’ll be considering painting your furniture a bold new colour or making your own lampshades and cushions to bring some of your own personality to the room.

Overall the programme is a breath of fresh air to British television, bringing the UK a 21st century home makeover show that will inspire its viewers to improve their own homes. We hope that the programme format finds its way on to TV screens across the globe, it’s certainly one to look out for!

The second series of The Great Interior Design Challenge is currently being shown on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm on BBC2 and runs until the start of December. Be sure to have RoomSketcher Home Designer ready when you watch it, so you can use the show for inspiration with your own interior designs.
