Real Estate Photographer Roamy Fils-Aime has worked in his profession for eighteen years, though his path into it wasn’t completely planned. We sat down with him to get insights into his story and how he uses RoomSketcher to set his listings apart from the competition.

Roamy got into real estate photography "by accident, actually," he explains. During a birthday trip to Las Vegas, he noticed casino promotional teams using the same photography gear he had at home. When a new venue opened near his base in Airmont, New York, he put together a portfolio to pitch his services.

"My portfolio got passed around, and real estate agents started contacting me. That's how I got into it."

Today, Roamy shoots properties across New York's Hudson Valley for agents, developers, contractors, and homeowners, getting jobs nearly entirely through word of mouth.

From Graph Paper to 3D

Before RoomSketcher, Roamy manually created floor plans to sit alongside his property photos. He would measure rooms on-site, sketch layouts on graph paper, scan the pages, and send them to an agency's drafting team.

"Learning to make floor plans myself gave me control and a faster turnaround."

About six years ago, he started using RoomSketcher. He imports his site sketches and traces them into RoomSketcher on his iPad Pro, producing polished plans himself.

When the pandemic made in-person tours impossible, 3D floor plans became his new standard for helping buyers visualize layouts and furnishing.

Why RoomSketcher

3D floor plans made with RoomSketcher overlaid on real estate photography of the house they represent.

Before RoomSketcher, Roamy tried multiple options, including CubiCasa, a tool many of his peers already used. RoomSketcher stood out for its 3D capability and flexibility.

"I didn't want to be locked into someone else's system."

With RoomSketcher’s multi-format exports, he can deliver floor plans as JPEGs for MLS listings and brochures, or PDFs on request. The custom floor plans fit seamlessly into whatever marketing system his clients use.

"Every brokerage and agent has a different style," Roamy notes, "so I provide assets they can adapt."

Standing Out

In a market where most photographers offer only photos, Roamy can deliver a complete package: professional photography, drone shots, and RoomSketcher 3D Floor Plans.

"Most photographers don't offer add-ons,” he says. Roamy runs workshops where he encourages photographers to “broaden their services by including drone, 2D, and 3D floor plans. With these, you can deliver a complete, upscale package."

Roamy runs around four real estate photography workshops per year and always includes RoomSketcher in the curriculum.

"Presentation matters… A polished 3D floor plan leads to referrals."
